Endorsements and graduation requirements

Core classes

All students need to take core classes to graduate high school. These include science, math, social studies, and English. You’ll also take fine arts, foreign language, and physical education. Learn more about core graduation requirements.

Classes required to earn this endorsement

In addition to your core classes, you’ll complete additional classes to earn an endorsement. These classes focus on a specific subject or skill set. Check with your counselor or use the MapMyGrad to find the right classes at your school.

Social studies

Careers like history teacher, museum curator, or historian. With this career path you need to complete additional history or social studies classes.

American Sign Language (ASL)

Careers like interpreter. With this career path you need to complete basic to advanced ASL classes.

English

Careers like author, journalist, or publisher. With this career path you need to complete additional English classes.

One foreign language

Careers like translator or foreign correspondent. With this career path you need to complete basic to advanced classes in language other than English.

Two foreign languages

Careers like translator or foreign correspondent. With this career path you need to complete two classes each in two languages other than English.

Fine arts

Careers like sculptor, dancer, or art teacher. With this career path you need to complete a series of fine art classes.

Meet Michelle

Michelle started borrowing her stepfather’s camera when she was 10, after he showed her how to work all the settings. She’s the lead editor of the yearbook and wants to work for National Geographic. Michelle chose the Arts and Humanities endorsement so that she can take photography classes and learn the foreign-language skills she needs to travel the world.
