These careers have similar skill sets, education, or responsibilities. Once you know the career cluster you want, you can look into specific careers.

What are career clusters?

This program of study teaches students about fixing vehicles. Students learn about careers repairing and refinishing cars. They will gain skills like collecting payments and providing key services. Key services can be things like changing oil, adding antifreeze, and swapping tires.

Automotive

This program of study introduces students careers working with airplanes. They'll learn skills like maintaining planes and managing air traffic. Students explore using tools and devices to meet safety rules.

Aviation Maintenance

Students learn to fix and improve big machines. They'll work with cranes, bulldozers, buses, truck engines, and more. Students explore ways to diagnose, repair, or redo equipment.

Diesel and Heavy Equipment

Focuses on the movement of people, materials, and goods. In this field, you will plan and manage transportation systems involving road, pipeline, air, rail, and water. This field includes careers in logistics services and maintenance.

Pilot and navigate the flight of fixed-wing aircraft, usually on scheduled air carrier routes, for the transport of passengers and cargo. Requires Federal Air Transport certificate and rating for specific aircraft type used. Includes regional, national, and international airline pilots and flight instructors of airline pilots.

Airline Pilots, Copilots, and Flight Engineers

Pilot and navigate the flight of fixed-wing aircraft on nonscheduled air carrier routes, or helicopters. Requires Commercial Pilot certificate. Includes charter pilots with similar certification, and air ambulance and air tour pilots. Excludes regional, national, and international airline pilots.

Commercial Pilots

Control air traffic on and within vicinity of airport, and movement of air traffic between altitude sectors and control centers, according to established procedures and policies. Authorize, regulate, and control commercial airline flights according to government or company regulations to expedite and ensure flight safety.

Air Traffic Controllers

Supervise and coordinate activities of crew engaged in operating and maintaining engines, boilers, deck machinery, and electrical, sanitary, and refrigeration equipment aboard ship.
