Nursing Faculty Loan Repayment Assistance Program 

Purpose of the program

The Nursing Faculty Loan Repayment Assistance Program encourages nurses to serve as faculty at eligible colleges and universities. This will increase access to more nursing education programs. 

How to apply

To apply, first create an account by going to the Coordinating Board’s secure portal, CBPass, if you have not done so previously. Once you have created an account, click on the "Nursing Faculty Loan Repayment Program" hyperlink. You will need:  

  • Your Texas Nursing License Number 
  • Information about your student loan balances, account numbers, and loan holders 
  • The email address for your Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Your CAO may be your Dean of Nursing, Director of Human Resources, your supervisor, or other official who is authorized to verify employment information. After you have submitted your application, we will email a service verification form to your CAO.  

Eligibility requirements

To receive loan repayment assistance, the participant must: 

  • Hold a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing 
  • Be licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing for the State of Texas 
  • Apply to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by the published application deadline 
  • Have been employed for at least one year, and be currently employed as a faculty member of a nursing program at an eligible institution 

Award amounts

Nurses may qualify for up to $7,000 in student loan repayment for a period of up to 5 years based on full-time employment. 

Nurses working part-time may qualify for up to $3,500 in student loan repayment assistance. 

Eligible loans

The following apply for a loan to be eligible for repayment: 

  • There must be a promissory note which required the loan to be for educational expenses 
  • Must not have an existing service obligation 
  • Must not be in default status at the time of application

What is considered full-time? 

  • The individual institution determines what is considered full-time employment as a member of the nursing faculty. 

What is the service period? 

  • The service period is a minimum of nine months of a twelve-month academic year.
