Learn how to code and explore different coding languages. There are tons of tutorials online and for free, be curious about it and give it a try.

My day starts with "Standup", where the team and everyone else gives an update of what we did the day before and what we’re doing next. There are some meetings scheduled to discuss current projects, blockers, and make design plans. I allocate part of my day to coding, answering emails, and reading documentation from other projects I can learn from.

From GED to computer science degree

Find a support group or mentors that can help you. Start learning new things in any way that you can. Whether that is through school or not, keep learning. Don't wait for people to give you permission to do something. If you want it, go for it.

As a software engineer, I have to cure a bunch of excel sheets and take that information and manipulate it into something that is useable. My work mainly focuses around optimizing the performance of teams throughout the company.

Prepare yourself to get that dream

Get your high school diploma or a GED. Go to a community college and start taking classes to see if you actually like what you are interested in. Explore your options and give things a try.  

I usually get to work at around 6:15 in the morning and get ready for a day of teaching. My students get into class at 7am and at that time I pass out the equipment we are going to be using. I then go to teach my lecture course at 11am. I start winding down my day at around 2pm when my classes are down. I am also part of the academic senate, so occasionally I have to go to departmental meetings.
